WOCAM hosted a wonderful meeting with Senior Center Managers across York County. This meeting was organized by Lora Klein from the United Way. Managers shared their resources, and experience to help each other support our communities. Additionally, we listened to some information from a representative from the CDC who spoke to us about how loneliness negatively impacts human health. Also, a representative from Angus King’s office listened to us share our needs and concerns. She will bring her observations to both Senators King and Collins. (Senator Collins is on the Committee on Aging.)
Senior Centers are doing meaningful work in our communities to combat isolation, and improve overall health. If you see someone who is spending too much time alone, be sure to invite him or her to come out and play a game or drink some coffee. Our members are on the front lines in providing much needed care to one another.
